When Frank Dawson is accused of a brutal crime in 1974, the entire town turns on him and his family. His wife Dorothy is left to care for their two daughters alone while pregnant with their third child, another girl named Joy while Frank is sent off to prison. Despite the hardships inflicted on the Dawson family, Frank, Dorothy, and Joy never lose their faith in God. While the town gossips, shames and passes judgment on the Dawson family, they continue to love each other and their neighbors just as Christ would. Their love for each other - and for Christ - transcends their earthly suffering. Frank's relationship with his family grows so close because of this struggle that it creates a connection between them all that enables them to demonstrate to the community the kind of love Jesus instructed His followers to live out in their lives.
