Mellows
Although they never achieved a national chart hit, the New York based Mellows, led by the gifted vocalist Lillian Leech, have always been one of the most revered early R&B vocal groups of the 1950' s. in addition to Leech, their lineup formed in 1954 included John "Tiny" Wilson (first tenor), Harold Johnson (second tenor and guitar), and Norman "Polecat" Brown (bass). on the a-cappella recordings featured in this compilation recorded in 1956, Brown and Johnson were replaced by Arthur Crier (bass) and Gary Morrison (second tenor, baritone). This compilation spans selected tracks from their first sessions in 1954 to their a-cappella sessions in 1956. Included are the collector's favorites "I'm Gonna Pick Your Teeth with An Icepick" and "When the Lights Go on Again" which the group usually performed in the dark. All selections have been newly re-mastered.
