Although he goes by the nom de plume Regular, Seattle-based fractured rock purveyor JOHN F. KIELTYKA has never really been normal. Which might explain, for example, why he likes to write and sing songs about people addicted to sniffing paint fumes (as evidenced by the apropos 'Huffer.') He even uses a popular over the counter anti-itch ointment as a metaphor for apathy -- just put on 'Lanacane.' The family knew something was wrong with John well in advance of his fourteenth birthday, when he spray painted the entire contents of his suburban New Jersey bedroom. While advanced addictions to nicotine and caffeine soon ensued, he went to art school and got the hell out of Dodge, on the Raritan Valley line, if memory serves him correctly. Some years later now, still six foot six, and with a Masters degree in fine art, John has worked as a museum security guard (like STEPHEN MALKMUS and DAVID BERMAN [Silver Jews] before him), a hot dog vendor, a university professor and a software tester. Recorded at The Diller Hotel in Seattle and Produced by film composer JON SAMPSON (Tempête Dans Un Verre D'eau, Silence!, Wadeck's Mother's Friend's Son), Regular is best understood as Indie rock recorded with jazz musicians. The disc was mastered at WEST WEST SIDE MUSIC by John's first-ever guitar teacher ALAN DOUCHES (Burning Airlines, Jets to Brazil, Saves the Day). While most normal shit claims to be special, this special shit claims to be Regular. Regular is anything but. Listen very carefully.
