Moving on Skiffle
Van Morrison
On his new album, Moving On Skiffle, Van Morrison was inspired by the Skiffle music that emerged as a prominent genre in the 1950s, drawing on American folk music, blues, country & jazz with a disarming 'homemade' sound.
In school, Morrison himself played in a skiffle band, and since then the genre has been a thread that runs throughout his long and versatile career. Although he has explored many other places musically along the way, he has always returned to his first love sooner or later.
Moving On Skiffle is basically a love letter to Skiffle music with interpretations of old Skiffle songs - 23 songs in total - but Morrison's soulful vocals take them in exciting new directions and leaves his own mark, as only a musician of his abilites and experience can manage.
