The saxophone giant is represented here by a great variety of albums: Blue Train (1958) is of course Coltrane's one and only Blue Note record, a bona fide classic featuring the stunning title track; Coltrane Time is a lost masterpiece featuring pianist Cecil Taylor, previously released under various bandleaders' names; and The Paris Concert is an under-appreciated live album recorded in 1963 with the classic quartet of McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison and Elvin Jones.
