A young girl flees from a forced marriage and her desperate flight starts a series of events which change the history of her land. She also finds a partner, a mage of considerable power, and together they work to restore the position of her house and name. This takes place on the world of Maailma, which is one of the few planets in the Web of Worlds that has Mahti. Those who can access Mahti can manipulate both energy and matter, but powerful mages are rare, and not always defenders of the right. Men do not inhabit Maailma alone, there are others who can also use the power, and they are a constant threat.
