The Creator observes the spectacle of the creation on Earth delighting in the triumphs, despairing in the disappointments and befuddled by their delusions and gods. Believing free will and reason are adequate for the achievement of happiness, The Creator occasionally, though with trepidation, intervenes with unexpected results. Filled with poignancy, insights and humor, big questions-fewer answers, mystery and intrigue, history and foreshadowing the story follows the separate journeys of the heroes-Nathan, Marianne and George as they come together in two small towns on opposite banks of The River. There, they confront the consequences of their own choices, the choices of others, the weather and both the bitterness and sweetness of reality-as they discover the meaning and purpose of it all.
