Father and son compete in the creative world of San Francisco, both in the arts and for sexual contacts. Living in a bisexual city, conflict ensues for status and achievement. Anne, ex-wife and mother, has put distance between herself, divorced and bitter at having to support the two men in her life, one through alimony and the other via handouts. Her recent inheritance allows her to be generous. Edward struggles as a writer's-writer, only after his death will he achieve that national award he so desired. Moss, his artist son, is broke and little recognized. His most notable talent is his sexuality and hoards of males and females chase after his perfect ten body. Edward and Moss nearly come to blows over life's success and failures. The two have a verbal contest and are competitive on the creative front. It is at the end of his father's alcoholic life, Moss comes to terms with his love for him. Legacy over money has become his life goal.
