Publisher Marketing: Between 1865-1875, Walter Crane designed for Warner and Routledge a tremendously successful series of fifty illustrated "Toy Books" sold for one penny each, due to their large print runs. The present edition gathers in a clean and elegant layout eight of the original stories as they were drawn by Crane, fully restored and enhanced: "The Three Bears," "Cinderella," "Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves," "Little Red Riding Hood," "Valentine and Orson," "The Sleeping Beauty," "Bluebeard" and Puss in Boots." Contributor Bio: Crane, Walter Nathaniel Hawthorne (1804-1864), though best known for his novels and short stories for adults, also produced several works for children, including a companion volume to A Wonder Book called Tanglewood Tales (1853). About the Illustrator: Walter Crane (1845-1915) was one of the most popular English illustrators of children's books in the late nineteenth century. He was one of the first book artists to experiment with color in picture books.
