The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir Who Got Trapped in an Ikea Wardrobe The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir Who Got Trapped in an Ikea Wardrobe by Romain Puértolas appeared in 2013. The novel is different from the traditional French novels. It is the strange story of a Fakir who comes to Paris by airplane to buy a new IKEA bed of nails. He is trapped in a wardrobe, which is going to be sent to England. The novel is a huge hit and is translated into 39 languages across the globe. Puértolas is a French border guard who investigates the affairs of illegal immigrants in Paris. As he himself states, he wrote the novel on his mobile phone during his travels from home to work. The novel depicts the lives of African refugees and illegal immigrants who have fled their countries on cracked old boats. It is written in an attractive and humorous language, especially the name of the characters such as the Fakir Ajatashatru Lavash Patel is humorous (his name in French resembles the phrase: "he has swallowed the steeled screw." The novel describes impossible events in such a way that they can be believed to have happened. The story has a high speed and one can swiftly read it.
