This fairy tale is loosely based on an old French fairy tale, 'Toads and Diamonds', by Charles Perrault, printed in "The Blue Fairy Book," edited by Andrew Lang. Grateful Heart and Grimelda are twin sisters, but one is sweet and kind, and the other is selfish and thoughtless. A fairy hears of them, and decides to see if the rumors are true. After disguising herself twice to test the sisters, she decides to reward one, and punish the other. But her mind is changed by the sisters' mother, and the fairy chooses to help both sisters. They all learn that people can change, love heals, and mercy and forgiveness are the greatest of gifts.
