Prologue: Patricia R. Smith is a sixty-five-year old woman, educated in one of the top-rated universities in France, sophisticated, poised, beautiful and well-mannered. She is the editor of an African American magazine and resides in Atlanta, Georgia. A member of high society in her city, she is practical in her approach to life and in her business affairs. She had fallen in love once, or at least she thought she had. She was married for a brief time - no children. Since her divorce, she has been fully absorbed in the business of running the magazine. Her world is about to change. For better or for worse? That will be the lingering question for her.
