Practicing Edification In Utterance S Sekou Abodunrin

Paul's ministry could be condensed into two words - local church. His message to Corinth can be condensed into one word - Edification. Merging these two ideas, 1 Corinthians 14 is a solid treatment of edification in the local church. God who built the church in the resurrection of Jesus is building the saints through our service to one another today. We must approach the 1 Corinthians 14 text as a whole, so we are not left with a fragmented understanding of the Apostle's mind.

Yielding to utterance in the assembly is good. Even better is doing so from a sound foundation in the truth of God's word as prophesied in the holy scriptures and taught by the apostles, for in the final analysis, the way we understand God's word is the way we worship God. Therefore, our practice must be rooted in God's word.
