What does it feel like to stand on stage and play the opening three chords of a song that all the audience knows by heart? Or to suddenly see your mother, as you sit in a café with the two grandchildren she has never met? Flash fiction has the ability to penetrate to the core of an issue, delivering full-flavoured emotions of humour, fear, joy, in barely a page of writing. This volume collects together the prize-winning stories from nearly a decade of flash fiction contests at InkTears. Each story a ripe fruit, picked from thousands of entries, with a variety of tastes to suit every palate. And much better metaphors than that last one. If you are a flash aficionado, this book will fill you with pleasure. If you are still to be convinced that flash is relevant and worthy, then I implore you to pick this book up and start reading.
