A disenchanted housewife runs away from home only to meet up with an enigmatic old man who is soon revealed to be her long presumed dead grandfather. And thus the epic saga of three generations is revealed, played out on two continents on either side of the Atlantic and spanning two world wars. It is also the story of ordinary people who try hard to endure and overcome the adversities of their lives with dignity and honor.
