Very near to being used up, the sick old man lay his head down on the hard cold ground, prepared to meet his maker and looking forward to it. Awakening refreshed, renewed, he knew not whether he had entered heaven or hell, only sure that it was not the world of the day before.
But it was not heaven or hell, only his world once more standing on the brink of another war destined to be even more destructive than the one he faced from Gettysburg to Appomattox Courthouse. Worse, deep within his mind, he found knowledge, unfathomable knowledge, which might hold the key to saving the nation or its destruction. Some thought he was crazy. Some thought he was a spy, and worst of all, he did not know for himself who or what he really was.
