The first step of technology development is to create the original idea or hypothesis, this is usually the hardest part of the innovation process. In the usual sequence of events innovators first generate their innovative idea then, secondly convert it into a preliminary model, thirdly test a laboratory model and then if required arrange testing on animals or humans (if any), and finally consider commercialization. During the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, lockdown policies have driven us to both create and use existing local technologies that can be applied to help solve problems. However, developing countries have faced a series of limitations, for example, technology levels, lack of experience, lack of raw materials, inadequate budgets, and also a general lack of knowledge. Therefore, this book introduces some techniques to create and recruit innovative ideas, designed to support novel innovators, especially medical and engineering students, which as part of their STEM studies, can help them highlight areas of need that can lead to innovative potential solutions, and also suggest how to simplify optimum technologies that can then be used by developing countries.
