Jennifer Bierma can see dead people, but in the beginning, she didn't know they were beyond the veil. As a child, she couldn't explain the people who visited her at night, the little boy who hid her schoolwork, or the way she knew of her uncle's death before her family had even received the news.

Even though she often hid her gifts from the world, the spirits rarely hid themselves from her. They continued to tell her about themselves, and through the process, taught her more about her own self. As she grew older, Jennifer came to realize that her abilities as a medium--seeing into past lives and other dimensions, conversing with spirits, sensing traumatic past events, and feeling the state of someone's health through touch--were not something to be feared.
