Since Rallis Yy's homeland Adesa was invaded by rival nation Jev, he and his family have struggled to adapt. As a half Adesi, half Jevite, Rallis faces scorn from both sides and can only keep his head down and hope for the best. When Lieutenant Amun Taarq-a soldier in the occupying Jevite legion-approaches him, he expects the worst, but all Amun wants is a khas opponent. Even as their hearts soften to one another, conflict and oppression worsen in Adesa.
