Cher Bibler is a poet. Every word she chooses weaves a story that evokes strong images and ideas, at times haunting and soul-searching, always thought-provoking. The reader does not necessarily walk away with a sense of satisfaction or affirmation, but rather, we are compelled to examine our most private thoughts and inner struggles of self-worth and our place in a society that does not always reward us for our personal successes and achievements. The narrative of I Am Never Sure When follows Billie as she struggles with personal relationships-a married man, who may, or may not, notice her in the real world, a friend Julian who has achieved worldly success as an artist, a mother who is a cold and distant stranger, and a father who is little more than a ghost. Billie has chosen a life of writing poetry, and while that decision brings personal satisfaction and fulfillment, it is not without its costs. I Am Never Sure When is, at times, like taking a peek into the most intimate thoughts one might write in a diary.
