Set in rural Alabama during the late 1960's, Josh Davis and Bert Montgomery find themselves adrift in extended adolescence until a crime sends them on divergent paths toward adulthood. Josh does a stint in the military and Bert does a stretch in prison pushing them to cope with stress and time, one moving toward the positive and the other spiraling downward out of control. The two make sense of the world in very differing ways leaving them back close to where they started though distinctly apart.
