San Francisco, 1972. A female corpse is found as day begins at Lands End, the craggy promontory where that enchanting city meets the churning ocean. That same morning private investigator Rex Nichols is called in on a case of a cheating wife. While Rex is in the architectural office of the husband, getting briefed on the woman's activities, news arrives that the Lands End victim is the firm's young bookkeeper. Along with a police detective and a racetrack investigator, Rex joins the murder investigation and is drawn into the deepening mystery. The suspect list grows to include a pole dancer turned psychic, a Nordic gigolo, a socialite snob, a corrupt business icon, and a young architect who sometimes finds reasons to wear a disguise. Ten days after Rex gets involved, a second body is discovered, this time nude, and only a seagull's glimpse from the first....
