Ekphrastic Writing Workbook Marilyn Hope Lake

Dr. Marilyn Hope Lake used her experience as a creative writing instructor and her award winning painting skills to create the EKPRHASTIC WRITING WORKBOOK . It contains 20 original pieces of art: ten watercolor paintings and ink drawings, plus ten art quality photographs. Ekprhasis is defined as a literary description of or commentary on a visual work of art. Each work of art in this workbook is presented with space for writing. All are meant to motivate, inspire and entertain the creative spirit. Daren Dean, nationally known author and professor of writing at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge wrote, " Here's a new writing workbook that may be of help to some of you in the classroom. Please checkout this wonderful book by one of my former writer professors, Mariyn Hope Lake." "I like the landscapes. I think that this book might be useful for high school students or individuals who want personal inspiration for their writing," comment from another writing professor. When you look at one of the paintings, drawings or photos, what does it bring to your writer's mind? What are your first thoughts? Does the illustration evoke a feeling? Memory? A particular time? Poetry or prose? A sonnet? A simple verse? Flash Fiction or an anecdote? Does it call for a narrative poem? Or a short story? Perhaps a bit of whimsy? This workbook is intended to motivate, inspire and entertain the creative spirit. It has no "how to" instructions, simply visual art and space to begin writing.
