April Showers is an affectionate teenage midget who dwells in a trailer overlooking the Foggy Bottom dump, from whence her good friend Charlie conveys her upon his broad shoulders to Foggy Bottom High. At the same time, April has an alternate persona - Spice 23 - who is a resident of a dystopian institution that prepares chosen girls for the supreme sacrament of Ascension Day. Meanwhile, however, she is set to encounter graduation day, her marriage to Charlie and a harrowing adventure downriver - followed by the birth of twenty midget children and a decent into the outer precincts of hell.
