Work Hard for Your Dog in the Fight

Publisher Marketing: "Work Hard for Your Dog in the Fight" is a critique of politics, society, American voters, and the two-party system. Author, father, paramedic, and one-time Tea Party candidate Jim Miller may perhaps identify himself as a failure at everything that mainstream society has to offer, but he has composed a unique and thoughtful analysis of American culture that leaves far more popular authors thinking "I wish I'd said that." "Work Hard for Your Dog" defies categorization. It is a memoir, an essay on racism and a treatise on the republican form of government. Miller presents for your consumption a world-class collection of original satire, prose, a truly unique perspective on the American experience, and a solid introduction to the political arena that is invaluable to anyone considering a career in public office. Each reader will find things to both love and hate about Miller's rendition of eastern North Carolina. No matter whether he is reliving 4-H camp during a hurricane or satirizing the Obama Administration to the score of Gilbert & Sullivan's "H. M. S. Pinafore Miller" is a consummate writer who never leaves the reader without something to contemplate. But what is perhaps Miller's greatest contribution to the literary world is his ability to be someone who is just like you even though you never know what he is going to say next. For example, while any (failed) politician can write a memoir, only Miller donates 100% of the after-tax proceeds from "Work Hard for Your Dog in the Fight" to his favorite charity. Contributor Bio:  Miller, Jim Jim Miller is Professor Emeritus at the University of Edinburgh. He taught linguistics at the University of Edinburgh from 1967 to 2003 and the University of Auckland, 2003 to 2007. He is the author of A Critical Introduction to Syntax (2011) and Spontaneous Spoken Language: Syntax and Discourse (with Regina Weinert, 2009).
