Neil Bix is an Arkansas farmhand turned steel mill worker, After being transferred to a mill in Ohio, his life begins to unravel when a recession devastates the area. The mill closes, he's unable to hold down a job, and his marriage is in shambles. Daily, he visits a park close to the mill to try and sort out his life. One day, he gets accosted by a panhandler and rescues a dog in distress.
