On a seemingly insignificant planet called Rylaxon, society hung by a thread in the shadow of a crippling energy shortage. It is during these troubling times that Biron Coomra is born to a race of clone-like people. His father is a well-known and respected biophysicist who made a historic discovery on a distant planet--absolute proof of the existence of intelligent life in the universe: humanity. Biron's mother is a thirteenth-level witch from this newly discovered world called Earth, and she bristles against the Rylaxon social class system. Her son's future is in no way guaranteed, as an ancient prophecy warned the Rylaxon inhabitants of certain destruction if they intermingle with their distant cousins.
