Weaves together elders stories, eyewitness accounts by white people, and a trader s inventory to describe a period of exciting change from horses, trader s goods, and missionary teachings. Conflict with Plains Indian tribes pushed the Salish and Pend d Oreille into a military alliance with the white trappers and traders.

These texts are for a junior high school course on Flathead Reservation history. The set includes contemporary documents and twentieth century interviews with tribal elders to emphasize eyewitness memories and personal experiences.
