One summer a 13-year old boy by the name of James Norris travels with his parents from the Twin Cities of Minnesota to his uncle's cabin in the isolated forests of northern Wisconsin. On the third day of the visit young James becomes hopelessly lost while exploring in the woods. As night settles across the landscape, he arrives at a mysterious grove of trees and hears the howls of wolves. Later that night James happens upon an old man named Shawn who tells James two stories about wolves and imparts some rather significant information. We next meet James as a 25-year old disgruntled accountant living in the Twin Cities and recently separated from his live-in girlfriend. He soon finds himself back at his uncle's cabin in northern Wisconsin. Thus follows a series of events and encounters that reveal to James just what rests within him and his role in what is shaping up to be a global crisis of unparalleled proportions.
