Vengeance is rooted in the rich legends of the infamousSalem Witch Trials and Dudleytown, Connecticut, theself-proclaimed most haunted spot in New England. Dudleytown was founded in the early seventeenhundreds by the four Dudley brothers who had exiledthemselves to escape the legacy of guilt left them bytheir ancestors. Their disgrace began with theirgreat-grandfather, Edmund Dudley, who was convictedof treason and beheaded, and culminated with theirfather Thomas Dudley. Thomas Dudley was apersistent Puritan heresy-hunter who proscribedharsh punishments, including the hangings of accusedwitches in Boston and Salem. It was Thomas's cursethat followed the four brothers into this quaint NewEngland settlement deep into the Connecticut woodsand almost destroyed them all. For two hundred yearsVengeance was imprisoned in a place isolated from theinherent evils of mankind. For two hundred years Vengeance waited until threeyoung men's playful whim brought them to him andunleashed a terror that was two hundred years in themaking.
