The controversial death of Mozart in 1791, at the age of 35, left not only a void in the world of music but also left his Requiem unfinished. The first eight bars of the Lacrimosa movement gave clues as to where it was headed and a commission was granted to finish the piece to honor Mozart in 1792, on the anniversary of his death.
