The odd ways in which my family made money: It only hurts when I laugh
David Kitchen
Growing up, I thought it was normal, but in time it dawned on me that my family had some odd ways of making a living. The one thing they did not like was being told what to do. Being employed often runs up against that problem. My family found creative ways of getting around it. Some were innovative, and others were shady but not very bad. This book is a collection of stories that have made me smile or laugh over the years, but I was a bit shy about sharing. So dad the racecourse tipster, street trader, Punch and Judy man, kitchen table investor, magician and trade union rep. Our Neil with his art. Ian's schemes, both inside and outside of the law. Impulsive wreckless, restless me. Mum put up with it all but then made her bid for what she wanted before it was too late. My children and grandchildren know nothing of these worlds. I wrote their stories and then discovered they made a few other people smile. This book is for anyone who enjoys seeing odd bits of life through the eyes of others. My family and I had a laughed.
