Implimentation of Just-in-time Production System: Building Blocks and Guiding Principles

Just-in-time production system is originally called Toyota production system and recently called world class manufacturing. The central concept of just-in-time production system is minimization of production wastes which is defined as any thing that does not add value to the end product from the customer's perspective. It includes over production, defects, unnecessary inventory, inappropriate processing, excessive transportation, waiting time, and unnecessary motion. Just-in-time manufacturing tries to smooth the flow of materials from the suppliers to the customers, thereby increasing the speed of the manufacturing process. It seeks to achieve the goals of zero defects, zero set-up time, zero inventories, zero handling, zero lead-time, and a lot size of one . With just-in-time production system we get a view on total manufacturing picture. This book addresses the implementation of just-in-time production system concepts to both discrete production system and continuous production process with case analysis.
