Information is considered as one of the most important resources for development in any field of human endeavor and the field of fisheries education and research is no exception. Information technology (IT) has revolutionized the information-related activities globally. The Internet, especially the WWW and developments such as the CD-ROM databases, electronic journals, etc have turned Electronic Information Sources (EIS) into major information sources. The emergence of electronic information and communication environment has provided the users of the Fisheries institutions with wide opportunities to satisfy their information needs. The present study is an effort to understand the pattern of use of EIS by the Fisheries academic community. This book has six chapters. It also covers the establishment of Fisheries education in India and investigates the use of EIS by the academic community. The book also discusses about the need for Fisheries information system and proposes a model for Indian Fisheries Information System. It is a useful addition which will help librarians and other information managers to develop Information and Communication Technology based library system.
