Desperation is a tricky, indescribable concept. A desperate person finds themselves bending morals and taking unnecessary risk in the face of its enormity, only to shame themselves for the behavior they've indulged in after the desperation has passed. The desperation I felt in loom of an $80,000 student loan and accumulating bills that required immediate payment was something that I had never experienced. It was consuming. And it was dangerous.
