Synaesthesia is a condition in which one type of stimulation evokes the sensation of another, as when the hearing of music produces the visualisation of colour. The condition is linked to autism and dyslexia. There are estimated to be 70 different types of synaesthesia and it is experienced by approximately 4% of the population.
