Matthew Paine, a young doctor in a small town outside of Raleigh, North Carolina, preferred a simple quiet life. Enjoying his career as a General Practitioner in a family medical practice, his family, his friends, and his music, he was satisfied with his life -- until a new patient, the intriguing and alluring Eleanor Prestwould, made an office visit.

When a murderer thinks Eleanor gave him something incriminating, Matthew gets pulled into the drama of her life, quite without meaning to be. During the murder investigation, soft-spoken Matthew is thrown together with the stoic Detective Warren Danbury from Jonesfield and subjected to his staccato questions and responses.

Finding himself back in touch with his ex-girlfriend, Matthew tries to make sense of the chaos that has engulfed his quiet life, sorting out what's most important to him and why. In the process, he teams up with Detective Danbury to investigate a passionate murder...or two.
