These stories deal with conflict and the patois of human suffering. "The Scythe Man" is the story of a war veteran with a mental illness in which he sees his family, a platform for meting deranged justice. "Crazy Lizard" deals with the claims of a priestess that newly born is an incarnate deity. The young boy's criminal exploits few years later, devastates his family, neighbours and community. "Never After" is a story about conflicts of personal interests, grief, mischief, suspense, suspicion and murder. In it, reactions to pain distort the social order. Stories like "Egbesu," between "militants and oil thieves" and "Forest of Flames," deal with complex issues relating to the struggle for resource control in the Niger delta and how the ideological "struggle" of that region of Nigeria has been distorted
