Colonel Ellsworth Alanson Walters who was best known as Colonel E. Walters was the Osage tribe's auctioneer beginning around 1916 and for about the next two decades. He officiated the Osage lease sale auctions which brought in revenue for the Osage shareholders. During the oil boom, millions of dollars came into the tribal treasury. Two of the most famous sales took place in 1922 and 1924 in the Constantine Theatre on Pawhuska, Oklahoma's main street. In 1926, he dedicated a memorial to the state of Oklahoma depicting Native and White friendship. The monument with his likeness and that of Osage leader Bacon Rind still stands in Walters' hometown of Skedee, Pawnee County, Oklahoma.
