The Conscript is the story of the Nigerian Civil War or (the Nigeria-Biafra war as some people call it) as seen through the eyes of a child soldier who was conscripted into the Biafran army. It is by no means an account of Nigeria-Biafra but purely the way a young conscript saw the war and the impact of the war on his life and the life of his people.

His ordeal from the time of conscription, through his sham military training, his bullet injury (treatment and recovery), and what happened thereafter. What became of Biafra, which he fought so hard to defend. The fate of the people of Biafra at the end of the war.
