Contributor Bio:  Lang, Andrew Andrew Lang (31 March 1844 - 20 July 1912) was a Scottish novelist, journalist, poet, critic and historian who was born in Selkirk, Scotland on March 31st 1844. He was the oldest of 8 children, born to John Lang and Jane Plenderleath Sellar. As a young boy, Lang attended the Selkirk Grammar School and then went on to attend Edinburgh Academy and the University of St. Andrews as well as Balliol College, Oxford. Andrew was a fan of Williams Shakespeare and folklore such as Grimm's Fairy Tales. This inspired Lang's love of myths, folk-tales and magic. In 1987 Andrew moved to London to become a journalist. That was also the year that he married Leonore Blanche Alleyne. They never had any children together. Andrew Lang created one of the best known collections of folk and fairy tales in the world....the "color" fairy book series. He often collaborated with his wife to translate stories, which were obtained from all over the world. Andrew Lang was known as one of the most versatile writers of his day. He is best known for his folklore and mythology books. In his spare time, Andrew loved to fish and play golf. He also loved to travel with his wife. They often travelled to France and Italy. During the last years of his life, Lang experienced a decline in his health. He died in the Tor-na-Coille Hotel in Banchory on July 20th 1912 of angina pectoris. He is buried at St. Andrews in the cathedral precincts.
