Throughout his loveless upbringing Hasani Weston has often wondered about his true origins. He is plainly not the son of his English father, but bears a close resemblance to his Egyptian mother. Having grown up as a virtual stranger in his family, he left home as soon as he was able only to endure a harsh life living on his wits on the streets of 1990s London. Through his experiences he has learned to be cold, self-sufficient and strongly independent. Upon the untimely death of his mother, he discovers an unfinished letter that she had been writing just before her passing. The letter is addressed to an unknown person in Egypt and appears to hint at a scandal around his very existence. There is only one way to answer his questions and so he decides to make the life-changing journey to trace his real family in Cairo. He encounters the wrath of his ruthless relations and learns of the tragic downfall of his mother and the sordid details of his own origin. His unwelcome appearance results in the unleashing of tragic fury as a lifetime of pent up frustration is released. A series of missed opportunities and twisted coincidences are revealed against the backdrop of a tense, edgy oppression on the harsh streets of Cairo.
