Lacrimosa is Latin for weeping and it often refers to Our Lady of Sorrows, a title given to Mary, the mother of Jesus. The original song Lacrimosa, which was composed by Mozart, is part of the Dies Irae sequence in the Roman Catholic Requiem Mass. The band Evanescence was inspired by the classical piece when they wrote their song Lacrymosa and even included a sample of the original in their song. Lacrymosa appears on the Evanescence 2006 album The Open Door. The title story and book title draws from these inspirations. Other stories included in this collection are: Like Water for Sauce, Sam and Sara, Sehnsucht, The Noble Heart and To Say Goodbye.
