When the Nazis invaded Poland in 1939, Edward Gessler was doing business in France. Much to his horror, he couldn't return to Warsaw to protect his wife and three children. He anguished believing his family suffered a tragic fate because of their Jewish heritage. After an exhaustive search ten years later, Edward discovered his family lived in the United States with Heidi Petersen, who was their former nanny. With persistence and patience Edward rekindled relationships with his grown children and fell in love with the girl who had saved his family from the Nazis. Edward and Heidi married believing they would enjoy a long, happy life together. However, an unanticipated threat simmered as Edward's double-agent past would reappear and put their relationship into jeopardy.
