"It seemed certain to me - and I still believe it today - that we can never wrestle too much with God so long as it is done out of pure concern for the truth." Simone Weil, February 3, 1909 - August 24, 1943 Gustave Thibon, befriended by Weil during her time in Vichy, wrote, "her mouth uttered thoughts as a tree gives its fruit, her words did not express reality, they poured it into me in its naked totality; I felt myself to be transported beyond space and time and literally fed with light" (Simone Weil as We Knew Her, pp. 122-123). In the thirty years since coming upon her and her work, I have found myself experiencing much the same sentiment. Weil's exemplary narrative and brilliant insight deserve the atttention of all thoughtful people. This selection may be useful to them as they look for a fuller, more integrated vision of reality.
