Alexander MacLaren
Born in Glasgow in 1826, Alexander Maclaren was converted into the Baptist Church at a young age. He gained a BA degree at the University of London before becoming a minister at Baptist Portland Chapel in Southampton. He was president of the Baptist Union of Great Britain twice, and president of the Baptist World Congress.
Maclaren is regarded as one of the greatest preachers of the Victorian era. This collection of his prayers was published in 1911 and shows the sheer artistry, creativity and imagination that made Maclaren such a renowned minister who is still hugely popular into the modern era.
