The story of an inexperienced young intelligence officer, Lieutenant Harry Siddons, his Vietnamese translator Tran, and four battle-hardened Marines hiding a terrible secret. When they hear of a lost cargo of heroin worth a million dollars, they pool their resources and set off into the jungle. Dogged by the Viet Cong (including Harry's girlfriend, a spy for the VC) and the drug smugglers themselves, the six men face betrayal and attack from inside and outside their ranks. Their dark odyssey takes them from the Ho Chi Minh Trail to the ghostly ruins of a French rubber plantation and finally to the mean streets of Saigon.
