Lawlessness
William G Lord
Many Christians view the world at its surface. In order to understand what I mean, think of riding on a boat over a calm sea. What do you see? You may see a beautiful surface reflection with water ripples reflecting the sun's light like diamonds. The sun is so bright that it fills one's very soul with light. The scent of the sea breeze fills the intellect with surreal visions of universal harmony with nature. It is an invigorating experience, and I have found the worldview of most who call themselves Christian to reflect the seaward view. The contemporary Christian surface view is defined in books on the Christian bookshelf. The books normally consist of devotional, self-help books for Christians. They answer the question: "How do I get the most out of life on earth?" They are books for the surface dweller. They are books for life in the shallows. Lawlessness is different. Dr. David Allen, dean of the school of theology at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and author of several theological studies himself, offered this comment after reading Lawlessness. "Lawlessness is something of a unique book. I've never seen anything that traces the biblical history of what the Scripture says about lawlessness as humanity's rebellion against God. In addition, this book's historical and philosophical orientation tracks the subject very well. Lord demonstrates that God's answer to man's lawlessness is the cross of Christ. This work will be an interesting read for just about anyone." Lawlessness presents an organized approach to Judeo Christian doctrine and the historical salvation story of the Bible. Doctrine of God is identified through the biblical historical events which created the need for salvation of mankind. The frame of salvation is restored and displayed as the reestablished ethical relationship with God. The journey is complete with exposure to the opposition to God's ethic. The comparison brings about awareness of a choice to follow God's ethic or mankind's developed ethic. Lawlessness provides clarity for mankind's choice between the ethic of God and the ethic of mankind. Come with me into the deep and I will show you what is beneath the water's surface.
