Falling Time is the fiction account of an American logger hired by the French Government in the early 70's to take over a logging operation "gone sour" in Cameroon, Africa. The previous logger had gone "native" and part of Sam's job is to send him home. The agricultural contract stipulates that Sam must incorporate the indigineous tribe of pygmies into his logging operation as a training exercise in forestry. He takes this contingency at face value. What results is the story of this struggle, combined with Sam's growing awareness of his impact on the diminishing people and their culture. His shocking coupling and subsequent love for a half-pygmy woman and his growing respect for the once terrifying elephant, Onga, begin to usurp his passion for money. He becomes torn between two cultures, fitting into neither and doing justice to no-one.
