Inside a garage, varioustools sitting idle due to a massive hurricane outside. Bored they decide toplay "Phzed," a game based on the concept of 6 degrees of separation &the Kevin Bacon game. When finished with Phzed,'Dae,' their leader, tells a story that takes their imagination fromthe garage to a distant place in time, the strange land of their ancestorswhere they meet several tools of the past. A rock named Pebble explains thatthis is the land where Noah's ark was built, and introduces them to the toolsthat were used to build the ark. The group also meets a canteen named Aqualyn, who only converses in poeticverse. He is lost and looking desperately for water. As they help him search, Aqualyn explains where he came from and ultimately reveals how the Stonehenge monument was created. A desert scorpionhelps them find the spot where water is buried. While digging forthe water the tools encounters a hard buried and bearing the words "NO WHERE," this signifies the burial of answers to some of life's most puzzling questions, like where all the water from the Great Flood ended up, theinstructions for the tools to return home, and the meaning of life. They also learnthat everything in life has rules that must be followed in order to besuccessful. Readers also learn how the pyramids of Egypt were built as thetools work to find their way back home. Once home, they have a new appreciationfor the tools of the past, as well as the constant changes in the world. "Nomatter how different we may think we are or appear, we are all linked togetherby a common past and share in the building of our collective future," saysGlasgow.
